Create 3D-Printed Picture Books in the ideaLAB!

Our family ideaLAB workshops in March will be a little different than usual - we're hosting the team from Tactile Picture Books Project for two days of workshops with the end goal of creating 3D printed tactile picture books for children with visual impairment.

3D Printing has shown great potential to print tactile pictures - pictures you can touch - in order to build literacy for children with visual impairments. However, currently available 3D design tools are hard to learn, resulting in children being excluded from the 3D design process. In this series of workshops, we will use a hands-on design process to understand how to convert flat picture books into something you can touch, and learn how model 3D pictures. Children who are eager to learn how 3D printers work and passionate about designing their own 3D printed book are all welcome to come, participate, and contribute to the 3D printing community as designers!

Part I: Saturday, March 14, 11 AM - 1 PM  - Tangible 3D Design with Craft Materials

Part II: Saturday, March 28, 1-4 PM - Programming 3D Pictures

We will reimagine scenes from our favorite picture books, expand our creativity, and learn some 3D modeling basics. Like all of our family ideaLAB events, it is all ages, but no unaccompanied adults or children, please. This is a free, two-part series, open to all ages, and registration is necessary to attend. Parents will be expected to attend with their children. Please click here to register for the workshops. See you there!
